Are Permanent Hair Extensions Worth It?

What are permanent hair extensions?

Permanent hair extensions are blocks of actual human hair that are added in with your natural hair to create the illusion of more hair or fuller hair. Many people who have thin hair use this method to increase the volume of hair, while creating a natural look with extensions.

These extensions are created with real human hair, so it is entirely possible to color it to a desired shade to match your own hair, as well as to style it and wash it as you normally would with your own hair. weave hair extensions generally last about three to six months with proper care and maintenance. The extensions are attached with an application process called bonding where several pieces of hair is attached with a protein bond or a special glue.

There are two methods of bonding, i.e, hot fusion or cold fusion. Hot fusion utilizes glue or keratin protein and attaches the clip in hair extensions using a heating tool. Cold fusion attaches the extension with keratin bonds and does not use heat.

Permanent extensions can be fairly expensive, on average they cost anywhere from $700 to over $1,000.00. If you decide to have extensions attached, you have to care for them properly to ensure that they last. Improper care can cause the bonds to weaken and to come loose from the natural hair.

It is important to keep in mind that the more money you spend on the extensions, the longer they will last, in addition to the better quality you will receive. It can take over three hours to properly "install" the extensions by a certified professional stylist.

Another consideration is that your hair and scalp should be relatively healthy before you try to attach hair extensions. One way to determine if your hair can support the weight is by conducting a simple strand test. If you pull on a single strand of hair and it comes out very easily, your hair will probably not be able to support hair extensions.
